A man has died in a drive-by shooting in downtown Calgary, Calgary police said.
Police received several calls around 9 p.m. M. Thursday, gunshots were heard. | Arriving officers found a man dead in the 600 block of 10th Avenue S.W. in the city's Beltline area, police said.
In a news release Friday afternoon, Calgary police said the homicide unit was investigating.
"This explosive incident demonstrated a blatant disregard for human life and endangered the safety of bystanders," said Detective Lee Treit of the homicide unit.
"Video footage and witnesses are critical to us holding the assailants accountable for this brazen attack and we are asking anyone with information to come forward".calgary-police-service.jpeg
Police said the victim has been identified as Thane Cameron Clayton, 40. Police said he is not from the Calgary area.| He has ties to Vancouver, Edmonton and Halifax.
Police said CCTV footage collected in the area showed the man walking west on 10th Avenue S.W. , toward Sixth Street S W., when a dark-colored SUV pulled up and an occupant of the vehicle shot him several times before fleeing the scene.
At this time, police do not have any information to indicate whether this was a targeted incident.
