Event: Armed conflict is escalating near Sake, North Kivu. Due to the security situation in the region, the U.S. Embassy is limited in its ability to provide consular assistance, and travel by U.S. Embassy personnel to North Kivu is restricted.
The Embassy advises U.S. citizens in North Kivu to review their personal security plans if they must leave their homes without notice. Make sure you and your family's travel documents are in order and that essential items are packed in bags that you can easily carry.
If you require urgent assistance, please contact the Consular Section at the phone numbers below. Action to Take:
Review your personal emergency plans and make sure your family has enough food and water if you must stay home for a few days. Pack essential items (clothing, medication, travel documents) in a bag you can carry. Have a personal emergency action plan that does not rely on U.S. government assistance. Take advantage of commercial transportation options if you need to leave the area. Avoid crowds and demonstrations. Be aware of your surroundings. Monitor local media for updates. Stay sober.
