A dramatic temperature swing in Calgary over the past 24 hours has left some communities with water problems.
At 8 a.m. on Monday, Environment Canada recorded a temperature of -20°C at Calgary International Airport. By the same time on Tuesday, the temperature had dropped to -1°C. Freezing temperatures were also recorded overnight.
Several communities across the city are currently experiencing water outages, and crews are on scene working to restore service as quickly as possible.
Outages have been reported in Abbeydale, Deer Run, University Heights, Skyline West, Banff Trail, Haysboro and Coral Springs, according to the city.
As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, more than 200 homes and six businesses were without water due to the holiday.
Trucks have been deployed to some of the affected areas, the city said. Under normal circumstances, the city says water main breaks are repaired and water service restored within 24 hours.
