Agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have raided the base of a major cocaine syndicate in Lagos led by a husband and wife team, Agbakoba John Mmadu and Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe and their associate, Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane, who were shipping large quantities of cocaine from the syndicate for export and local distribution.|
The raid, carried out by a special unit of the agency, came after months of intelligence gathering and surveillance of the syndicate known for packaging, distributing and trafficking cocaine in and out of Nigeria.|
Agbakoba John Mmadu, 54, was arrested at Ago Palace Way, Okota while his wife, Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe, 39, and his partner, Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane, 31, who also serves as his hideout, were caught at Plot 2205. Closure at Eugene Ndubisi, Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, all day Wednesday, July 3, 2024.|
While seven packets of cocaine weighing a total of 7,|652 kilograms of Mmadu were recovered from Ago Palace road, no fewer than One Hundred and Twenty-Two (122) compressed pellets of the same drug weighing 2.7 grams 42kg were seized from the duo of Ijeoma and Ifeoma at Lilly Estate, making a total seizure of 10 kilograms worth over N2.|One billion street value.|
In the same vein, NDLEA operatives in Benue State on Thursday, July 4, intercepted a consignment containing 350 grams of cocaine at a checkpoint along Enugu, Otukpo road.| The illicit drug was concealed in an MP3 speaker sent as a waybill packet.| A quick follow-up operation at Flight parking lot in Otukpo led to the arrest of the owner, Odeh Anthony, 25.|
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives on Wednesday, July 3, during a stop and search operation along the Ngurore – Yola road in Adamawa State, arrested a Chadian national, Yves Ahmat Gali, in a public bus travelling from Kano to Yola. The suspect was found with a loudspeaker containing 20 compressed blocks and nine plastic containers of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing 5,200kg.
In Kano, operatives on Wednesday, July 3, arrested a member of the Youth Corps, Yusuf Abdulrahman, 25, at Corpers Lodge in Sumaila local government area with 1,250kg of Loud while in Osun State, the Head of Akarabata Community in Ile-Ife, Ba'ale Ige Babatunde, 50, was on Friday, July 5, arrested with fresh cannabis plants weighing 5kg. Two suspects: Monday Ali, 49, and Jimoh Alewi, 37, were arrested when NDLEA operatives raided Ikota Forest in Ifedore LGA, Ondo State where a total of 42,500kg of cannabis was destroyed in 17 hectares of farmland while 73.5kg of the same substance was seized for prosecution of the suspects during a five-day operation that ended on Monday, July 1.
In Abuja, FCT and NDLEA officials on Saturday, July 6, arrested the duo of Sanusi Mamman, 28, and Usaini Ibrahim, 20, in a vehicle along Abaji-Gwagwalada with 1,132 bottles of Codeine Syrup; 13,540 Tramadol tablets; 50,000 Diazepam tablets and 59 Rofinol tablets. The suspects claimed they brought the opioids from Onitsha, Anambra State.
With the same momentum, the agency's commands and formations across the country last week continued their war on drug abuse, WADA and sensitization activities in schools, places of worship, workplaces and communities, among others.| These include: an insightful AMA lecture to students of Community Grammar School (Junior), Aroro, Ibadan, Oyo State; students of Candy Secondary School, Agu Awka, Anambra State; students of Community High School, Umuida, Enugu Ezike, Enugu State; students of School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Kofar Nasarawa, Kano State and AMA sensitization conference organized by NDLEA Zone M Zonal Command at Sabo Motor Park, Kaduna, among others.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, NDLEA, Brig., commended the officers and men of the Special Operations Unit, Osun, Benue, Ondo, Kano and FCT Commands for the arrests and seizures General| Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) noted that their efforts to reduce drug supply were in line with the sensitisation activities of WADA and urged them and their compatriots across the country to keep up the pace.
