'Dangerous cold' coming to Canada, Alberta weather forecast looks chilly.calgary-in-the-winter.webp
Subzero temperatures of -40 degrees are expected across the Prairies.
The weather forecast for Alberta is set to take a chilly turn, with a polar vortex sweeping across parts of Canada. Parts of Alberta are bracing for temperatures as low as -31 degrees this weekend — oh my!
According to The Weather Network (TWN), this is shaping up to be "one of the most visible and widespread Arctic fires in North America since 2014." So it's time for Canadians to brace for a bitter cold snap.
An Arctic air mass is hitting the Prairies, bringing "much colder than normal temperatures" to the region as it moves across Canada.
TWN is warning that the Prairies are in for a "bitter cold," with temperatures as low as -40 degrees this weekend. Frostbite and hypothermia are risks in such conditions, so bundle up and take the necessary precautions.
The cold doesn't stop there: it's expected to spread across the country. In some areas, including the Prairies and parts of Ontario, temperatures could drop to -30 degrees and even reach -40 degrees with wind chills.
In Edmonton, the forecast for the next seven days calls for a very cold weekend with temperatures hovering around -30 degrees. Temperatures should then rise slightly at the beginning of the week. Calgary will have slightly less intense weather, although temperatures will sometimes reach -27 degrees over the weekend.
Don't forget to layer up and take extra precautions during this cold snap.
