A 14-year-old boy has been stabbed to death on a double-decker bus in what police have described as "a horrific crime".
The victim was killed on the 472 bus on Woolwich Church Road near the junction with the A205 South Circular Road in Woolwich, south-east London, at around 14:30 GMT.
The teenager died at the scene shortly after paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance arrived, the Metropolitan Police added.
Chief Inspector Louise Sargent said: "Our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends...I can't imagine what she must be going through at this time."

No arrests have been made, but a police cordon and road closures remain in place. The latest stabbing comes just three months after another teenager died in a stabbing in Woolwich.
Daèjaun Campbell, 15, was stabbed to death in September.

After his death, his mother, Jodie Taylor, pleaded for the "senseless killing" to stop.
Last year, 11 teenagers lost their lives after being murdered in London.
This is the lowest figure since 2012, but many are calling for much more significant action. Matthew Pennycook, Labour MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, said he was "deeply saddened by the loss of another young life in our community".
He added in his message: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased."
"We need to keep this in mind."
Mark Rodney, chief executive of Project Lifeline, an organisation that tackles youth knife crime, described the killing as "another devastating blow to the community."
"We need to take stock of what is really happening in our communities and start looking at other ways to find solutions," he said.
"He's a child, he's a child, he hasn't lived his life yet."
"The wounds of Daèjaun's death are still not healed in the community.
"I think two weeks ago this young man paid floral tribute to a young man who died in September, not knowing that today would be that person." "Two weeks ago, he didn't think he would find himself in this situation today."
The Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, said: "My thoughts are with the family, friends and community of Greenwich following the horrific fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy."
"This heartbreaking violence has absolutely no place in our city." »
"I am in close contact with police leadership - an investigation is ongoing and local residents will see increased patrols in the area."
The London Ambulance Service said it had sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, an incident response officer and a paramedic from its tactical response unit, as well as the Air Ambulance from London. »
A spokesman said that "despite the best efforts of our teams", the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
