Speaking to reporters at Queen's Park, Ford said the vehicle he was riding in was "burnt up" after leaving the Darlington nuclear power plant, where he was holding a press conference to unveil a new energy partnership with the United States.
"Oh, yeah, we were leaving OPG, driving down the highway and the car broke down and that's all I can say," he said.
"But we were driving straight and, without warning, we were hit, hit. I know, this head is like limestone. It's hard as a rock."
Ford went on to say that the driver who hit the vehicle he was riding in "went all the way to the other side of the highway."
"It was terrible. "I just hope he's okay," he said.
A spokesman for Ford's office said the prime minister and the staff and members of the Ontario Provincial Police who were traveling with him in the vehicle were not injured.
The spokesman said the driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
