The substations will be operated by the Saudi Electricity Company and will accelerate the development of projects in the historic area of Diriyah as well as in the nearby Wadi Safar.
"Today is very special for us," Diriyah Company Group CEO Jerry Inzerillo told Arab News, before emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development in order to complete the projects in time for Expo 2030 in Riyadh.

Inzerillo then explained how the project requires sustainable development because it serves a large number of people. The housing project "will be home to 100,000 people who will live, work, play and pray with us every day," the CEO said. "Therefore, we need a completely new smart city technology in which the Kingdom is a leader."
The larger substation will support the first phase of the Diriyah development and will be implemented by Saudi Electro Mechanical Works Services.
The result will be a combination of the region's natural beauty with modern infrastructure, including hotel assets and sports facilities such as the Royal Diriyah Equestrian and Polo Club and the Wadi Safar Golf Course.
During the event, SEC CEO Khalid Al-Ghamdi also expressed his excitement for this event and milestone.
"The completion of the Main Substation and the Main Substation marks a new era for Diriyah, one that combines state-of-the-art infrastructure with our shared vision of creating a sustainable city of the world," said Al-Ghamdi. "We are honored to work with Diriyah Company to provide energy solutions that are both reliable and in harmony with Diriyah's architectural heritage," he added.
Diriyah is one of Saudi Arabia's major megaprojects, supported by the Public Investment Fund. The project will eventually house 100,000 people and aims to welcome millions of visitors annually by 2030.
The Diriyah project alone will directly contribute $18.6 billion to Saudi Arabia's GDP and create 178,000 jobs, according to Diriyah Company.
The two substations have been designed in accordance with Diriyah's traditional Najdi architectural style to preserve the region's cultural identity. Although the city is a key part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, it also has historical significance as Diryiah is the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
