ST. LOUIS - A mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow was seen in the St. Louis area on Sunday. FOX 2's severe weather expert Chris Higgins explains the difference between freezing rain and freezing rain and the dangers they pose to roadways.
Areas south of St. Higgins explains that unlike rain, where clouds form into snowflakes and melt as they hit warm air, that rain will solidify and freeze after it hits the ground.

Sleet, on the other hand, will solidify before hitting the ground, which usually causes it to bounce back on contact.
Freezing rain tends to be easier to drive on than freezing rain because it is harder, but it will cause more snow problems when it comes to driving.
Areas near Farmington and De Soto will see mostly a mix of cold rain and snow without much snow on Sunday, while further south you will see only freezing rain during Sunday's winter storm.
