Two people have been seriously injured after a car crashed into a shop in Whangamata this morning.
In a statement, a police spokesman said emergency services were called to Port Rd, between Lincoln and Ocean streets, at around 6.30am.
Police said they were extricated from the vehicle and a witness told 1News a rescue helicopter left the scene shortly after 8am. St. John's sent two helicopters and three ambulances to the scene, treating two patients and transporting two people to Waikato Hospital.
"Two patients were transported to Waikato Hospital. One is in a critical condition and the other in a serious condition," a St. John's spokesman said.
