Prime Minister Justin Trudeau returned to Ottawa today, but he has yet to show that he is ready to respond to the growing demands for his resignation. The regional leaders of the Liberal parliamentary groups have called a meeting today to discuss the next steps.
Sources confirm to CTV News that the presidents of the regional groups of the party will meet practically today at 15:00.

During the call, national group leader Brenda Shanahan is expected to be asked to consider calling a meeting of all Liberal MPs. Some want the prime minister to receive a more formal request to resign, or at least set a deadline to decide whether he intends to stay on as party leader.
The meeting comes as calls for Trudeau's resignation grew over the holidays from caucus members across the country. The Liberals are also considering party leadership rules and the kinds of preparations needed for a potentially quick race. Trudeau, after a week spent in the West with his family, is not expected to attend the meeting. However, he is scheduled to virtually chair a meeting of the Canada-U.S. cabinet committee this afternoon, according to sources.
The meeting of ministers responsible for managing relations with the new administration of Donald Trump is expected to include a discussion of the meeting between Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly at Mar-a-Lago last week.
