ST. LOUIS — A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a teenager in St. Louis. Louis, according to court documents filed Friday.
The suspect, identified as Garrett Jordan, was arrested after police traced his phone's location data to the crime scene, according to the documents. Jordan has been charged with first-degree murder. Police are not ruling out the possibility of additional charges in the future. The investigation is ongoing.
The investigation began on the night of November 23 when Colin Brown, 16, was hit by a stray bullet while walking home from a hockey game on Highway 55 northbound near Loughborough. He died four days later, according to police spokesman Mitch McCoy. In a statement, Brown's family said they were grateful for the "tireless efforts" of authorities working on the case.
"While much remains to be done before this matter is closed, we are confident that efforts will continue," the statement said. "We hope this shows that senseless violence like the one Colin took from us cannot go unpunished. Once again, I thank law enforcement and the community for their assistance."
A witness told investigators that a dark Audi was often parked in front of the residence of another vehicle that was hit by gunfire while traveling south during the shooting, according to court documents. Officers obtained surveillance video during the investigation that shows the dark Audi following the car of a second unidentified victim at the scene of the shooting and returning to the residence after the shooting. Jordan lived in the mansion.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and tracked location data from Jordan's phone, which showed that Jordan's movements were consistent with the Audi's movements during and after the shooting. Jordan also told police that he was the only one on the phone since he was out on bail.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting. St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy said they can only share a limited amount of information at this time. "This matter is ongoing, we need to investigate further. We have enough evidence to charge the individual, but we want to make sure there are other things that we need to investigate. So if we are revealing too much with certain details, when we talk to other people, we have to make sure they are not aware of those complex details that you are asking for," said Chief Tracy.
