Around 7:40 a.m., Calgary police responded to the intersection of 210 Avenue and Belmont Drive S.W. after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle.
Police said the boy was taken to Alberta Children's Hospital in serious condition.
His injuries are life-threatening, but he is stable, police said.
Police said Friday's incident remains under investigation, but speed, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
People who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Clarissa Go has lived in Belmont for several months and says her children drive through this intersection to get to school.
"Every day when they drive through that intersection, I really worry about them," she said.
"I always remind them to look around, you know, left, right and back, and tell them not to use their phones while they're going through the intersection."
She recalls a two-vehicle accident that happened at the same location last month.
