The reliable and secure transportation of products to and from West Coast ports is essential to Alberta's economy. Approximately $50 million worth of Alberta's essential commodities, such as goods related to manufacturing, agriculture, and energy, are exported daily from these ports.
A protracted labour stoppage will harm the economy of Alberta and Canada, impede the flow of these goods, and bottleneck other transportation networks like rail and trucking.
Additionally, we are urging the federal government to enhance its labour relations management plan, particularly in the transportation sector that is subject to federal regulation, and to step in immediately with binding arbitration.
