Equatorial Guinea suspends officials for irresponsible actions related to a sex scandal.

All officials who engaged in sexual encounters in ministry offices have been suspended by Equatorial Guinea.

The vice president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema, made the announcement on social media on Monday, stating that the government will take "severe measures" to prevent such behaviour.

According to the statement, "today we will move forward with the immediate suspension of all officials who have engaged in sexual relations in the offices of the country's ministries."

Since these actions are a blatant breach of the Public Ethics Law and the Code of Conduct, the government will take strong action against them.

In keeping with our zero tolerance stance for actions that compromise the integrity of the public service, this move is a clear step forward.

"Respect and ethics are essential." in our government, and we won't let careless actions undermine public confidence.

"As state employees, professionalism and responsibility must be the cornerstones of our work."

The vice president said in a follow-up post on Tuesday that all government offices would soon have security cameras installed.

"We took this action to ensure that the law governing public officials is followed and to eliminate improper and illegal behaviour," he stated.

"Those who engage in these practices will face severe consequences, and we will not accept any fault that undermines the integrity of our administration."

HISTORY

Since authorities searched Baltasar Ebang Engonga's residence and workplace during an investigation, the Central African country has been enmeshed in a sexual scandal into purported fraud.

Engonga serves as the director general of the National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF), the nation's anti-graft agency.

About 400 obscene films allegedly showing the ANIF head and several women were found by investigators.

Sex videos showing Engonga allegedly having sex with his brother's wife, his cousin, the president of Equatorial Guinea's sister, the director general of police's wife, and roughly 20 ministerial wives were among the findings.

His office, hotels, and restrooms were used to record the now-viral recordings, supposedly with participants' permission.
