The agreement between the left-wing New Democratic Party (NDP) and Justin Trudeau's Liberals, which had supported the latter's minority government for the previous two and a half years, has been terminated.
The leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, claimed in a video released on social media on Wednesday that he had told the prime minister of his choice and that the Liberals were "too weak, too selfish" to stand up for Canadians.
The NDP backed the Liberals in confidence votes as part of the pact, which was dubbed a "supply and confidence" agreement.
The revelation suggests that Canadians may cast ballots ahead of the October 2025 federal election, but it does not necessarily mean that one is about to take place.
