In a pivotal effort to harness the tourism potential of Fiji's Northern Division, the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with the World Bank, has obtained $30 million in funding for the "Na Vualiku Initiative". This funding was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, during a parliamentary session.
Aligned with the national budget's emphasis on infrastructure-led sustainable development, the Na Vualiku Initiative is set to significantly influence the local tourism sector. A central aspect of the initiative is the introduction of a Pilot MSME program, aimed at providing cost-shared business development services, small grants to community-based tourism organizations, and focused assistance for women, cultural enterprises, and operators. This program seeks to improve market readiness and resilience, ultimately benefiting the wider community.
Through investments in the tourism infrastructure of the Northern Division, the Fijian Government is dedicated to ensuring that local communities engage meaningfully in the growth of the industry. This strategic resource allocation will not only foster economic development but also encourage sustainable tourism practices, highlighting Fiji's distinctive cultural heritage to a global audience.
The Na Vualiku Initiative exemplifies the Coalition Government's dedication to promoting sustainable development and empowering local communities. As Fiji looks ahead, initiatives like Na Vualiku will be crucial in shaping the nation's tourism landscape, generating new opportunities and advantages for the Fijian people.
