Ecuador's most infamous drug lord is on his way to the United States.
Jose Adolfo Macías, more widely known as "Fito," consented on Friday to be extradited from Ecuador to the US, where he is sought by the US Justice Department on allegations of drug and arms trafficking.
The leader of the criminal group Los Choneros accepted his extradition during a session at the National Court of Justice.
In a statement to CNN, Alexei Schacht, Macías's attorney in the United States, indicated that his client agreed to the extradition based on the counsel of his Ecuadorean lawyer.
"We are diligently working to safeguard his rights and assist him and his family," Schacht stated. "Mr. Macías and his entire legal team are striving to achieve the most favorable outcome for him."
