Residents in the Marlborough area of Calgary are expressing their concerns over a property that has become a dumping ground for garbage and a potential site for an encampment.

The issue was first spotted by Carol Cooper's husband, who noticed a large tent and various debris scattered across a neighbouring green space, which he thought might be used for someone to sleep in at night. Despite numerous calls to 311 and the presence of eviction notices on the property, it took three weeks for the mess to be cleaned up.
The City of Calgary confirms that an investigation into the property is ongoing. While they do not classify the situation as an encampment, they recognize it as an unsightly property issue that involves personal items being left in the park following an eviction. Calgary Parks has been involved in the cleanup and Calgary Community Safety is monitoring the area for any further developments.
Local councillor, Andre Chabot of Ward 10, acknowledges the problem and has passed the issue along to the appropriate officials. He highlights housing insecurity as a potential contributor to such situations and emphasizes the need for collaboration with other levels of government to address the root causes.
The homeowner was not available for comment, but the community is hopeful that the cleanup and monitoring will prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The residents of Marlborough are eager to maintain the integrity and community spirit of their long-standing neighborhood.
