The ancient city of Peñico, located in Peru's northern Barranca province, has been unveiled by archaeologists.

Dating back 3,500 years, Peñico is believed to have been a vital trading center that connected early coastal communities along the Pacific with those from the Andes mountains and the Amazon basin.
Situated approximately 200 km north of Lima, the site is about 600 meters (1,970 feet) above sea level and is estimated to have been established between 1,800 and 1,500 BC, coinciding with the rise of early civilizations in the Middle East and Asia. Researchers indicate that this discovery provides valuable insights into the fate of the Americas' oldest civilization, known as Caral.
