Post by: Dev Sunday on 2024-08-27 09:05
The Calgary Police Service has charged Hammad Shaikh, a 24-year-old Calgary resident, with 24 counts related to sexual exploitation and child pornography. The investigation began in January 2024 after a teenage girl reported being sexually exploited and assaulted by a man she met online. Further investigation identified five additional victims, ranging in age from 12 to 16, who had similar experiences with the suspect.

The suspect allegedly used social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat to befriend the victims before arranging in-person meetings. He would offer them alcohol and marijuana in exchange for sexual acts. The victims are receiving support from the LUNA Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

The charges against Shaikh include sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, luring, possession of child pornography, making child pornography, and accessing child pornography. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 10. The police are encouraging parents, caretakers, and guardians to review online safety tips with their children to help prevent similar incidents.
