The investment of 120 million Canadian dollars will create a cutting-edge repair shop for Lufthansa Technik Canada, focusing on near-wing and quick-turn services for CFM International LEAP-1B engines that power Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This will be accompanied by Canada's first engine test cell for the latest-generation aircraft engines. The project is expected to create 160 permanent jobs by 2030 and 170 temporary jobs during construction. The facility is part of the YYC AeroNex initiative to develop Calgary as a hub for aviation services. Recruitment is underway, with Lufthansa Technik Canada already hiring 30 employees and planning to add 50 more by the end of the year. The company has also formed a partnership with SAIT to develop aviation training programs and is receiving funding from various government bodies, including the Government of Alberta and the Canada Infrastructure Bank. WestJet is set to be the first customer of the new facility, reflecting its commitment to the Calgary hub and its growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The groundbreaking represents a significant step in bolstering Calgary's aerospace ecosystem and contributing to the region's economic growth.
