"Tragedy struck at the Naija Market Day outside Calgary's City Hall on Saturday when equipment suddenly collapsed, injuring eight people.
According to the Calgary Police Service, seven adults and one youth were rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred around 3 pm, causing a light standard and TV screens to fall. Police and Occupational Health and Safety officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The market, which celebrates Nigerian culture in Canada, had obtained the necessary permits to operate in the plaza. While temporary lane closures were implemented along Macleod Trail, roads have since reopened. The Calgary Police Service is working to determine the cause of the equipment collapse."
