Anti-austerity activists display placards as they march from Portland Place to Whitehall during the People's Assembly national protest in central London.

The government has confirmed a reversal of its decision regarding cuts to disability benefits in an effort to prevent dissent from over 120 Labour backbenchers.

Individuals currently receiving personal independence payments (PIP) or the health component of universal credit will continue to receive these benefits.

In contrast, the proposed cuts will only affect future applicants - here are the changes summarized.

Starmer has faced one of his most challenging days in Downing Street after executing a third U-turn within a month, according to Chris Mason.

A spokesperson from No 10 stated that they have taken into account the concerns of MPs "who endorse the principle of reform but are apprehensive about the speed of implementation."

Dame Meg Hillier, who spearheaded the initiative to prevent alterations to disability benefits, expressed her support for the government's welfare bill, stating that "it represents a positive advancement."
