The attack took place in the Konduga area on Friday evening, with the perpetrator exploiting a heavy downpour to go unnoticed. The restaurant is located approximately 30 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital. Local reports suggest that the bomber was a female.
While no group has officially claimed responsibility, the region is frequently targeted by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, both of which are known for their violent tactics. Boko Haram has been waging an insurgency since 2009, aiming to impose strict Islamic law and oppose Western education.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of approximately 35,000 civilians and displaced over 2 million people in the northeastern part of the country. Despite assurances from President Bola Tinubu's government to tackle the nation's security issues, such incidents continue to occur, highlighting the persistent challenge of combating extremist groups in the region.
