Carla Beck, representing the Saskatchewan NDP, convened with short-line rail specialists yesterday to advocate for increased investment in this essential infrastructure.
Short-line railways are crucial for transporting agricultural goods within our province. Additional investment is necessary to guarantee that our rail system operates at its maximum capacity.
We were delighted to be welcomed by Glenn Pohl, Senior Railway Specialist at Xpert Railway Consulting. He remarked: "The short-line sector faces numerous challenges – including infrastructure development, maintenance expenses, and property taxes – yet it is becoming increasingly vital to the overall network, providing an option to enhance our class 1 partners' first and last mile services.
"The growth of short lines, interprovincial collaboration, and partnerships with industries will enable our supply chain to thrive. Our supply chain requires our attention more than ever, and we are prepared to expand and meet those demands."
Friends, it is imperative that we develop trade infrastructure from one Canadian coast to the other. This initiative concerns the future of Saskatchewan — YOUR future.
