The Russian Defense Ministry on Sunday said its forces have entered Ukraine's eastern Dnipropetrovsk region as part of its ongoing offensive. This marks the first time since the conflict began that Russia has claimed to have pushed into the region, which is not one of the five Ukrainian regions it has annexed.

Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the claim. The Dnipropetrovsk region is strategically important, known for its mining and industrial activity. If confirmed, this would represent a significant development in the war, as the region has been largely untouched by the fighting.
Meanwhile, the war of words between Moscow and Kyiv over the exchange of war dead continues, with each side accusing the other of delaying and not adhering to agreed-upon conditions.
This comes as Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders for not following through on threats to impose sanctions unless Russia agreed to a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. Nauseda told Germany's Bild newspaper that this lack of action undermines Europe's credibility.
The situation remains tense, with ongoing military engagements and diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict. DW will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
