A Chinese company, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, has released one of the three Nigerian presidential jets that were detained in France. This decision was made as a gesture of goodwill after the company learned that President Bola Tinubu needed the jet, an Airbus A330, for a scheduled meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The detention of the three jets, which included a Dassault Falcon 7X and a Boeing 737-7N6/BBJ, stemmed from a legal dispute over a contract that was revoked by the Ogun State government in 2016. Zhongshan had obtained a French court order to seize the jets as part of an effort to enforce a $74.5 million arbitration award against Nigeria.
The release of the jet is seen as a step towards resolving the ongoing legal conflict, with Zhongshan indicating its willingness to continue discussions with the Nigerian government to reach a swift and amicable resolution.
