The U.S. Coast Guard has successfully completed a significant drug bust, offloading more than 28,500 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $211 million at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The drugs were seized during four separate interdictions over a 10-day period in the Eastern Pacific Ocean by the crew of the USCGC Thetis, a 270-foot medium endurance cutter based in Key West. The operations also involved an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron in Jacksonville.

The seizures included 4,630 pounds of cocaine from two vessels, 9,993 pounds from a floating bale field, and 14,559 pounds from a second bale field, with an additional 3,984 pounds found later. The Coast Guard's ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling in the region have led to the confiscation of large quantities of illicit substances, aiming to disrupt transnational criminal organizations and reduce the drug supply reaching U.S. shores.
