The King has communicated with the Governor concerning the recent floods in NSW:
Dear Governor,
My wife and I have been profoundly troubled to learn about the extensive and catastrophic flooding affecting the New South Wales Hunter and Mid North Coast regions of Australia. We wish to express that our thoughts are firmly with all those who have suffered greatly, particularly the family and friends of the five individuals who tragically lost their lives. We extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathy to all who are grieving their loss.
As the immediate crisis subsides, I am acutely aware that communities are facing horrific, soul-crushing destruction to homes, properties, and infrastructure, along with the loss of invaluable livelihoods and livestock. With many hundreds of families displaced from their residences, I am keenly aware that the repercussions of this disaster will persist for many months.
I hold the highest regard for the emergency services, volunteers, and volunteer organizations, as well as the disaster recovery agencies, who are now uniting to collaborate and support each other on the lengthy path to recovery. Most importantly, I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to all those who, with the unwavering and generous spirit that is emblematic of the Australian character, will provide comfort and practical assistance to the thousands of individuals who are in dire need.
CHARLES R.
