Nigerian pastor Timothy Omotoso, known for his televangelism work and as the leader of the Jesus Dominion International Church, was deported from South Africa on Sunday.

Omotoso had faced multiple charges of rape and human trafficking, but was recently acquitted in the Gqeberha High Court. Despite the acquittal, he was rearrested upon his release from custody and declared a prohibited person in South Africa.
The Department of Home Affairs reportedly confirmed his deportation and a five-year ban from re-entering the country, citing his use of a fraudulent permit and overstaying his visa as the reasons for his classification as a prohibited person. The case against Omotoso had been ongoing for eight years. He voluntarily agreed to the deportation and was escorted to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where he boarded a flight back to Nigeria. This move follows his arrest last week and a brief period of release to pursue an appeal against his deportation.
