I pay my respects to the Emirati martyrs—soldiers, civilians, police officers, and peacemakers who have sacrificed their lives in the service of our nation and in the quest for peace and security both regionally and globally. On behalf of the Australians who have participated in peacekeeping operations alongside you, I express our enduring gratitude for your bravery, valor, and collaboration in fostering a safe and prosperous future for generations to come.

I have been profoundly moved and inspired by this remarkable and serene memorial site. In the presence of H.H. Sheikh bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, the Governor-General placed a wreath at Wahat Al Karama, the Oasis of Dignity, to honor the Emiratis who lost their lives in the line of duty. The establishment of this war memorial and monument was commissioned by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and it is a matter of pride that the Australian creative firm @uapcompany played a significant role in its realization. Together with British artist Idris Khan, UAP was involved from the initial concept design through to fabrication and installation, bringing Idris' exquisite vision to fruition.
