Sting Operation at OOPL: EFCC Arraigns 23 Suspected Internet Fraudsters Friday

Following the arrest of 93 individuals suspected of internet fraud at a hotel near the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will arraign 23 of these suspects on Friday, August 15, 2025, before Justice D. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Nearly all of the arrested individuals have been charged with offenses related to impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.

The arraignment will occur in batches and follows their apprehension at a Pool Party where they were celebrating their activities. The event was originally planned in two locations but was moved to the hotel at OOPL, likely in an attempt to avoid detection by EFCC operatives.

The organizers reportedly learned of the Commission's intelligence and relocated to the OOPL, anticipating added protection against arrest. The facility itself was not a focus of EFCC's operations, as the suspects were the primary targets and have admitted to their involvement in internet crimes.

The arraignment of the remaining suspects is anticipated to occur soon.
