The incident began when Airdrie RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle at approximately 9 p.m. on August 11, 2025. The vehicle, a 2007 Black Acura TSX, had been taken from the 2400 block of 24A Street S.W. in Calgary, with a dog inside. Fortunately, the suspect released the dog, which made it home safely.

The vehicle was later spotted heading north on Highway 2, and officers covertly pursued it. At one point, the stolen vehicle started driving in the wrong direction at high speed but eventually became stuck, allowing for a safe apprehension. The suspect attempted to evade capture but was blocked in by police vehicles.

McFawn was taken into custody and transported to Ponoka General Hospital for minor injuries before being released. Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, he was remanded into custody and is set to appear in court on August 15, 2025. He faces several charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, drive while prohibited, breach of release order, and possession of stolen property over $5000.

The RCMP RTOC (Real Time Operations Center) played a crucial role in the pursuit, coordinating efforts with multiple support units from Olds, Didsbury, Innisfail, Sylvan Lake, Ponoka, Blackfalds, and Red Deer, as well as Calgary and Red Deer Police Dog Services and CPS HAWCS. The RTOC is based at K Division headquarters and is designed to oversee and manage high-risk incidents for improved outcomes and officer safety.

Airdrie Detachment Commander, Inspector Lauren Weare, praised the collaboration between agencies, stating, "This incident demonstrates how all agencies work together for a common goal. Team work ensured the suspect was safely taken into custody and no one was hurt. Alberta RCMP remains fully committed in building safer communities by working in partnership with our communities and policing partners."
