The Fiona Wood Foundation (FWF) and its founder, Professor Fiona Wood AO, have dedicated their efforts to transforming the lives of burns survivors through innovative and groundbreaking work. As Patron, the Governor-General recently hosted Professor Wood and representatives from the foundation, including clinicians, researchers, and burns survivors, at Admiralty House to acknowledge their contributions and introduce the new initiative called Horizon.

Horizon is a significant step forward for the FWF as it focuses on funding cutting-edge burns research to deepen our understanding of these complex injuries and develop advanced treatments that can significantly improve the lives of burns patients. Professor Wood's vision is rooted in a relentless drive to enhance the care provided to burns survivors and position Australia at the forefront of this critical field.

The event also included a personal account from Cynthia Banham, who shared her moving experience of how Professor Wood's dedication and expertise have made a profound difference in her life. Cynthia's story underscores the long-lasting and life-changing nature of burns trauma and the importance of ongoing research to address the multifaceted challenges faced by survivors. Through the Horizon initiative, the FWF aims to create a brighter future for those affected by burns by continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible in burn care and rehabilitation.
